Прочитайте текст. Для каждого предложения А–Е выберите один правильный вариант ответа из четырёх предложенных (1, 2, 3 или 4).

Why local markets still matter

Large supermarkets and online shops have changed the way people buy food and other products. However, traditional local markets are still popular in many towns and cities. Some have existed for hundreds of years, while others have appeared more recently.

One advantage of local markets is the variety of products available. Farmers may sell fruit, vegetables, cheese or bread directly to customers. Other sellers offer handmade clothes, jewellery, household objects and local crafts. The exact selection often changes according to the season.

Buying directly from producers can also make it easier for customers to learn where their food comes from. They can ask farmers how vegetables were grown or when fruit was picked. This personal contact is difficult to get when buying a packaged product from a large shop.

Markets can also support small businesses. Renting a market stall is sometimes cheaper than opening a permanent shop. This gives new businesses an opportunity to test their products and find customers without spending a large amount of money.

Another benefit is social. Markets often become meeting places where residents talk to neighbours, local producers and shopkeepers. Some modern markets also organise music, workshops or food events to attract visitors.

There can be environmental advantages as well. Food produced close to where it is sold may travel a shorter distance. In addition, some market sellers use less packaging than supermarkets. However, this is not true of every product, so shopping at a market is not automatically better for the environment.

Local markets also face difficulties. Bad weather can reduce the number of visitors at outdoor markets. Sellers may have to start work very early, and their income can change greatly from one week to another.

Despite these challenges, many communities continue to support their markets. For customers, they offer more than simply a place to shop. They can provide local products, personal contact and a stronger connection between residents and the people who produce what they buy.

A. Products at local markets…

1) are always cheaper than supermarket products.
2) are limited to food.
3) can include both food and handmade goods.
4) remain exactly the same throughout the year.

B. Buying from farmers directly allows customers to…

1) ask questions about how food was produced.
2) avoid paying for food.
3) choose products from other countries only.
4) buy everything in large packages.

C. A market stall can be useful for a new business because…

1) it guarantees a high income.
2) it may cost less than opening a permanent shop.
3) no customers are needed.
4) sellers do not need to produce anything.

D. Which difficulty of local markets is mentioned in the text?

1) Customers are not allowed to speak to sellers.
2) Markets can operate only in winter.
3) Sellers cannot offer local products.
4) Bad weather can reduce the number of customers.

E. Choose the TRUE sentence.

1) Shopping at a market is always environmentally friendly.
2) Local markets are useful only for farmers.
3) Markets can help strengthen connections within a community.
4) Traditional markets have disappeared from most cities.

Текст для аудирования

Сейчас Вы будете выполнять задание по аудированию. Вы услышите запись дважды. После первого и второго прослушиваний у Вас будет время для выполнения и проверки задания.

Welcome to Westfield Science Museum. Our learning centre offers several activities for teenagers throughout the school year.

The robotics club meets every Tuesday and Thursday from half past four until six. Students work in small teams and learn how to design and program simple robots. The club costs ten pounds per month, and all necessary equipment is provided.

Our astronomy club meets on Friday evenings from seven until eight thirty. It is completely free for students aged fourteen to seventeen. When the weather is clear, members sometimes use telescopes outside the museum.

Every three months, the museum organises a science challenge. Participants work in teams to solve practical problems. The next challenge will take place in November, and registration opens at the beginning of October.

Students can also use our study laboratory. From Monday to Friday, it is open from three in the afternoon until half past eight in the evening. At weekends, it is available from ten until five.

Please note that the robotics room will be closed during the second week of October while new equipment is installed. There will be no robotics meetings that week, but all other clubs and museum areas will remain open as usual.

For more information, visit our website or speak to the learning centre staff.

Задание 4

Возможный вариант ответа:

Hello Emma,

Thank you for your email. I usually travel around my city by bus because it is convenient and quite cheap. When the weather is good, I sometimes walk to school instead. Public transport is useful for students because we do not need to depend on our parents for every journey. At weekends, I often use the metro when I go to the city centre with friends. I think transport in my city is generally good, although buses can be crowded during the morning rush hour.

Write back soon.

Best wishes,
Alex

Количество слов: 93.

В письме даны ответы на все три вопроса Эммы: описан обычный способ передвижения по городу, назван наиболее часто используемый вид общественного транспорта и выражено мнение об удобстве городской транспортной системы с объяснением.
